Pre-emptive Success

I successfully pre-empted the question to the Final Jeopardy! answer!!!

Category: 20th Century Playwrights

Beckett!!!

This success was marred only by the fact, that once the answer was given, I didn't realize that it really was Beckett. I went with Ibsen... was incorrect in that regard, but this does not, in my opinion lessen the victory of the pre-emptive strike.

That's funny, I just overheard part of Jeopardy in the laundromat, but not that part.

You know what's surprisingly depressing? The sound of a TV showing Jeopardy in an empty laundromat.

Possibly just pre-holiday malaise. I've been feeling that a lot the last few days. Hangin' in there . . .

Whoops, laundry oughtta need to come out of the dryer now.

I was working out a political jab about how the rightness of one's pre-emptiveness doesn't depend on whether you actually follow through successfully, but thinking about politics just makes me want to emit a bunch of swears.

CONTESTANT: Yes, Alex, I'll take "Politics" for $400.

ALEX: These current political leaders do not measure the rightness of their pre-emptiveness by whether they actually follow through successfully.

CONTESTANT [buzzing in]: Who are goddamned $#%@!**ing #&*%heads!!!

ALEX: Noo, sorry. The correct response is #&*%—wits, goddamned $#%@!**ing #&*%wits.

CONTESTANT [thinking]: Man, I never get these political questions right.
