This Week in Cinema

For Your Consideration: Bad.

Let's Go to Prison: Not Bad.

The Fountain: Good.

I'd be fascinated to hear which parts of "Let's Go To Prison" they left out of the previews make it Not Bad. I miss Arrested Development enough still that I really want to believe there's more funny material out there involving Will Arnett hamming in an orange jumpsuit, but I don't think I can.

I dunno, it was surely better and easier to watch than For Your Consideration was.

There is just about no slapstick in the entire movie.

I'm also skeptical. Are we talking "Death to Smoochy" Not Bad, or "Something I'd actually possibly enjoy watching" Not Bad?

It's probably moot, given that I usually see a movie about once every month at best, and there are a couple more likely candidates on my list right now (Fast Food Nation, The Departed).

You should go see The Fountain. It's really quite impressive.

I think, think actually, that Let's Go to Prison will be funnier on a small screen than it was on the big screen.

Hamming (esp. Will Arnett's very facial/ verbal kind) is quite different from slapstick.

"Let's Go To Prison" will probably end up on my Netflix queue (est. viewing mid-2009). I do want to see "The Fountain", if only (but not really only) because these days it's nice to see exclusively in-camera special effects.

It's not exclusively in camera, in that they did use digital editing to combine the various footages...

Definitiley plenty of hamming.
