The big Pittsburgh sports news of the day is the Steelers' hiring of Mike Tomlin as their new head coach -- I don't have anything to add to the commentary around that, except that I think Tomlin bears a passing resemblance to comic bit actor and onetime Mr. Show cast member Jerry Minor.
Also of note, though, is that last week the Pirates picked up Adam LaRoche, who fits the long-elusive profile of a left-handed power-hitting first baseman, in what appears to be a surprisingly favorable trade with the Braves. (The Pirates sent closer Mike Gonzales to Atlanta; minor league prospects were exchanged as well.)
LaRoche would seem to offer some hope for the team's lineup next year (perhaps they'll even look better than the modified lineup Jack recommended at last season's nadir); I imagine any Sean Casey bobbleheads left over from last season can be retrofitted with his visage. The Post-Gazette's Pirates Q&A feature from the day of the announcement is amusing for the fans' very atypical praise of general manager Dave Littlefield. Hopefully this trade will remain a visible feather in his cap while he spends the rest of the offseason failing to sign a starting pitcher out of free agency.

That's it; I was trying to figure out who Mike Tomlin bore a vague resemblance to. It's much more noticeable with this picture of Minor, I think. He was also one of the gay policemen on Arrested Development, right?
I'd given up and figured I was just assuming he looked like some other black guy since he's black. Though I also kind of thought Russ Grimm looked like the Time to Make the Donuts guy, which is wildly inaccurate, so maybe I'm just bad at faces regardless of race.
Minor delivers one of the funniest lines ever in Mr. Show... "Life is precious, and God, and the Bible."
Some context for that line: Minor is playing an audience member on a Jerry Springer-like talk show. "Because life is precious, and God, and the Bible" is the reason he gives when he tells a pregnant guest to respect her baby. Also, the "talk show" consists of the host, three guests, and one audience member stranded in a life boat after their cruise ship sank. Very high concept, that Mr. Show. The inevitably YouTubed clip is here.
...Also, Jerry Minor was indeed one of the gay cops on Arrested Development. The couple of episodes he was in must have reached the highest number of Mr. Show alums simultaneously used in the series, with Minor, David Cross (regular cast), Jay Johnston (other gay cop), and Becky Thyre (waitress suing restaurant) all present.
